THIS COULD HAPPEN TO US

KARNES CITY -- Like beacons, the flares in Karnes County draw attention to one of the biggest and most profitable oil and gas finds in the world. Under the light belching from the towers, Mike Cerny takes a puff of medicine in what is now an empty inhaler.

Cerny and his wife say the inhalers and medicines the family takes now eclipse the royalties their property earns from fracking.

“When you see your son with up to three nosebleeds a day, something’s wrong with this picture,” Myra Cerny said.

At first, she thought it was “time” that was taking its toll on their bodies.

“But it was coming on too fast, the symptoms," Cerny said. "And others the same age -- I have a twin sister -- aren’t sharing the same problems.”

But with every bit of gas and oil being extracted, the family noticed changes in their health. The flares are supposed to burn off unwanted gases, but the family noticed clouds of black smoke erupting with the flames.

“We are totally surrounded," Cerny said. "And no matter which way the wind blows, we’re getting downdraft from one or the other."

Worried, the Cernys contacted the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

In August and September, investigators with the TCEQ visited two units near their home. The leaking hydrocarbons are invisible to the naked eye, but are picked up as black smoke with the TCEQ’s infrared cameras.

The Cernys said their fears were realized when the TCEQ found the operator, Marathon Oil, was out of compliance.

“When they’re burning black and not operating right, like we’ve seen here, you have up to 250- pollutants raining down on your head," Cerny said.

According to TCEQ documents, methane, propane, butane, and hydrogen sulfides were in the noxious mix. The benzene emissions alone were reportedly four times over the legal limit.

The Cernys said it was the exposure to Benzene -— a known cancer-causing compound -— that matched their symptoms.

“That’s when we put things together. Well, that’s everything going on with our health. And we knew it was surrounding us,” Cerny said.

“Once you inhale it, your liver picks it up. And it is really what happens in the body that makes it carcinogenic,” said Dr. Andrew Brenner, a neurooncologist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

He said chronic, long-term benzene exposure is dangerous and can lead to blood cancers.

“People get leukemias, or you can have damage to your stem cells and their bone marrow. That results in an inability to make their own blood cells,” he said.

The Cernys said they’re breathing that air around their home 24 hours a day. Now the family worries about their growing boy, Cameron.

“It’s like a CSI episode: You picture the chemical going in their fragile lungs and what it is doing to their body. And you wonder, 'How much longer do they have?'”

The TCEQ made two recommendations to Marathon Oil: the company installs an alarm or monitor to make sure the flare is working properly, and that Marathon reports emissions problems within 24 hours.

The oil company received no fines from the state agency.

“We want out of here,” Mike Cerny said.

The Cernys said they are not alone in their suffering.

However, other nearby residents were reluctant to come forward, telling KENS 5 they have family working the oil and gas fields. Complaining, they said, could cost them their jobs.

The Cernys believe the industry may have already cost them their health.

“Death,” said Mike and Myra Cerny simultaneously.

“That’s all I can think. Death,” the worried mother said. “Seeing our son die maybe before us. That’s all you can think.”

Not just in your backyard people

http://tapestry.usgs.gov/features/09michigan.html

Once again, thousands of wells in Northern Michigan with the ANTRIM  FRACKING GAS SHALE AND THE NIAGARAN REEF FOR OIL AND THOSE HUNDREDS OF OIL.  Not to Mention the  HYDROFRACKING wells they have runing.

YES, MICHIGAN IS VERY INVOLVED AND IT IS ABOUT TIME PEOPLE   RECOGNIZED NORTHERN MICHIGAN AND ALL OF MICHIGAN IN ALL THEIR TALKS.  WE ARE SUFFERING HERE ALSO FROM FRACKING.

poo poo is going to hit the fan when they contaminate a spring feeding a high priced whisky distillery in Scotland. Especially if it belongs to one of the big companies, they will be able to make enough noise to get something done. could be a good thing, as bad as it sounds. Last time I checked whisky is Scotlands largest export.

Oil Spill from Feb. 16, 2011 Michigan

This 3-4000 gallons of crude oil was spilled Feb. 16, 2011 and the road is still closed. Found this site and when you go to Michigan and hit the red circle in northern michigan you will see where the spill is.  I was told it was on "deadman's curve" but zero in and there is no curve there and area still closed. Hmmmmmmmmm (well sight? compression station?)
P.S. The mole for our little group says it said in the local paper that they had hauled truck loads of the contamination to the Atlanta (yes we have one too Georgia) Michigan landfill.  Atlanta is a tiny town in the middle of no where.  I was told that the landfill has made $32,000 already from this haz mat situation.
Huh, sound proud of themselves.

People in this Industry couldn't survive with what we put up with!

Northern Michigan here again.  I just have this feeling in the pit of my stomach that something is not right.  It has to do with going by that smelly Halliburton, A1 and Waste Management places.  I wonder how many of their children are sick with sinus issues (I had 4 nasal surgeries due to the industry, H2S in particular), or "mommy my heart feels funny", or short term memory goes on a trip or "look mommy, tommy tripped again over nothing".  Do their spouses try to tell these people when their own children aren't feeling well?  Ever wonder why you feel like you have bought the pediatricians new addition with so many visits?
How many victims are there out there, needlessly suffering not knowing there are people like us fighting for people like them.
Has a person working in this industry had to bring their 18 year old son to the Emergency Room because his heart was racing towards 200 beats per minute?  Had their 18 year old, athletic son, look at you like the little boy you are seeing him as at that moment?  How you feel every cell in your body stop as they put in the drug to stop my son's heart for a second hoping it would go back into a normal rhythm instead of atrial fibrillation.  Seeing the fear in this childs eyes as I hung onto his hand and gave him all the strength I had as they had to stop his heart again because the first time didn't work.  To have him working so close to these emissions and my hands are tied.  I have educated my children and they know they dangers but have they ever had to experience what we all have had to?!
If they had they wouldn't be doing what they are doing now. Operating with no regard to people or environment.
Damn you industry, DAMN YOU!!

TRAVERSE CITY FILM FESTIVAL-GASLAND

Wow, thanks Josh for inviting us to speak after the Gasland filming at the Traverse City Festival (In Northern Michigan).
There was a large crowd for the second showing in the festival and the q&a period after was great.  It was so nice to meet people who were doing the same fight we were.
Joe and I made it.  I got to give a short talk (ok, I talked alittle more LOL) and I was trying to hold myself up on the stage that I hope I sounded ok.  Being in my RED ZONE I was feeling it physically but educating people on the oil and gas industry was more important than my aches and pains right then.
We felt like VIP's and Josh and his friend are so down to earth.  We felt comfortable and with kindred spirits.  Looking forward to seeing Josh possibly in Sept. and will continue to educate!   TX Sharon even got a plug-you are great Sharon, everyone keep up the pace.
Trying.......
I am pumped up.  I needed it.

Michigan's Collingwood/Utica Shale Mtg.

It has been a long 24 hours.  We went to the meeting put on by the Michigan State University Extension service.  My hubby and I and a friend put together 75 copies of information forwarded to me, thank you Lisa and Ogap.  Within 15 minutes we had given those out and there were at least 200 people there.  We don't have anyone helping me financially with the fight so we made the copies we could afford to.  Funny kinda, when I went to pick them up there was another woman there making copies of the The Nation article and gave me several copies of that.  Their story was about what had happened in Pennsylvania.  Nice to know someone else is out there.
There was the Department of Environmental Quality geologists there.  A lawyer was there, as well as the industry  ducking in the back.  5 years ago we would have never heard this.  They were telling the downside of signing these leases and how the companies can do things they shouldn't to get you to sign a lease and then changes things later.  People seemed hungry for information.
I had to wear my face mask and I had 5 people ask me if I was wearing it for AFFECT.  I said I couldn't breathe the air without it..  Need to educate!!!
Here is what was found out that someone might find of interest. Oh Texas, a rig is on its way to us here in Northern Michigan.  They are not a rig we would use up here.  Saying that.....listen to what the State is saying.....there are no rules on deep wells in this State.  The companies waiting don't know what to do.  That would mean to me that they will have free reign like all the others.
There are 8 geologists to inspect at least 1000 wells now (I say it is 5000 wells).  They are inspected 3 times a year (not true) . And this one could make your jaw drop-BLOW OUT PROTECTORS ARE TESTED 3 TIMES A DAY.  I have not seen a company that would do that.   The DNRE don't know how much treatment the product will need, there is the Fear Of The Unknown-right out of the DNRE's mouth (used to be DEQ).
And this is good-the company has patented the fracking chemicals used so they don't have to tell us.  From the DNRE's mouths also.  So they are going to go ahead with this and don't have a clue.  Sounds right for Michigan.
The main players are ENCANA using leasing companies Mason Dixon, Energy West.  CHESAPEAKE using Western Land and OIL Niagaran services to get leases.  Continental isn't playing here anymore.
Not only is the test well in Missaukee County but one in the Upper Peninsula at 1000 feet in Pickford.
I can't wait for hubby to get home from the meeting with Encana,  hey I had a way of getting into the private meeting.   I was so sick from last night. I had my mask on but standing outside with cars going by and standing on new asphalt put me into a crisis.
That's what I have found out this week, looking forward to comments.
(I seem to have something wrong with the blog that I'm working on trying to get rid of that cutsy thing.)

Health of the Oil and Gas

I just found out yesterday that two people I knew in Lewiston have died. More death. All around my age, 52 or younger. One even moved away from Lewiston but once you live by a "bad" well, you fate has been sealed eventually and that is so sad.
We have to keep harping about the health issues or any education about what this industry has done to our (and will do ) countryside and cities. My "tourist town" is no longer. It is an Oil and Gas town. I can't go near there for the chemicals but my sources still trapped there see it. People want that money or as my friends, they don't have the money to get out. Who can sell their homes in my area of Michigan, not many. I was lucky, I got out before things seemed to not be selling. I lost money but I would be dead if I hadn't left. That's a fact.
Educate, Educate, look at your surroundings and just keep learning from what others have gong through.
We have a death list, when we had a documentary made and then the documentarist disappeared but strangly is My Space friend, and it is so large. THOSE IN OTHER STATES THINKING ABOUT LETTING GAS AND OIL IN. THEY LIE AND WHAT WILL "ALL THAT MONEY" SHOW YOU WHEN YOU ARE TOO SICK TO ENJOY IT. Unfortunately, I lost everything, my family turned their back on me and live a life of poverty. It wasn't supposed to be this way.
I've been told I am tough. When you are fighting to live life as long as possible then I guess I am tough. Some days I just want to throw in the towel as people around Northern Michigan aren't ones to want to hear what is going on. That is getting better but it is too late for some. I try and stay positive so on a positive note, go up to a stranger and see how they feel.

I feel strongly that by just telling out stories, people have to see something isn't right. Being high on the health affects as I am so affected, I had another chemically related reaction. I have been so chemically injured that breathing something as mild as lavender essential oil can cause my muscles to freeze up and unable to move. I had gotten bursitis in my knees because my new husband is remodeling the house to make it safe for me to live in it. I had my mask on as he was putting a door into an addition. I reacted to the blown in paper insulation that was between the buildings. I immediately couldn't walk.
The pain was so severe that after 3 days I had to do something. My arthritis dr. had to inject steriods into my knees that had never been done before. I knew I would react to the Lidocaine because I had before. But the pain was so severe I wanted relief.(We try alot of natural remedies first) I wasn't out the door when all my muscles froze up and my husband drove us very quickly as we lived an hour away. I had what I needed at home to correct the reaction but it was a long hour home.
THIS MAKES ME FURIOUS THAT THIS INDUSTRY HAS DONE THIS TO MY IMMUNE SYSTEM AND SO MANY OTHERS, MOST DON'T EVEN REALIZE WHY THEY ARE "SICK".
I had gone to a Naturapath Dr. recently and left the results on the blog but forgot to mention how she came up with all the metal count in my body. Will have to email that because I can't reach it at the moment.
Long story, sorry, but some days are even longer.....Thanks to this group and those making documentaries and talking to people. Keep up the good work for those in this nightmare of a "fight".

Be afraid, very afraid

I thought I would share what information received after being by evaluated by a specific machine that measures certain things going on in my body.
This is what I wanted to share in the gathering line this week. I would advise this for anyone to find out just what is in your body. I was quite surprised.
Here we go:
POTENTIAL FOR HEAVY METALS
Should be 0 but if some shows then the guide is below 20 is mild and over 100 real concern.

47 Cysteine
51 Tyrosine
45 Proline
Normal 80-100, below 50 chronic, over 100 acute
-2 Volt, reflects adrenal function and will power (I literally have no energy, gosh that answers my tiredness)
85 Amper, reflects brain function & related enzymatic
reactions
49 Resistance, reflects ease of flow of energy throughout
the body and immune system
71 Hydration, reflects ease of water flow in and out of
cells, thirst (I'm dehydrated)
78 Oxidation, reflects ease of slow of oxygen into cells

65-70 norm-below acid, above alkaline or potentially false
alkaline due to extreme toxicity

10 Proton pressure 66 is ideal
64 Electron pressure 67 is ideal
The great the point spread, the greater the challenge to heal

215 Major Resonant Frequency (Below 1000=risk degeneration,
above 10,000=nervous energy)

206 Reactance speed index, reflects how well the body is
recognizing imbalances & making corrections
(Below 15 ideal, below 40 norm, above 100 diseased/
degeneration states)

I could also go into the potential Vitamin concerns but email me and I will provide you with those.

The machine that was monitoring my brain activity had numerous areas of seizure activity and I wasn't feeling them. (which goes along with my 24 hr. EEG done in 2004) My foot jerked once, my little finger flinched and at times just staring. I would also stop breathing as the Dr. Was talking. When I am faced with chemicals I usually pass out or just stare blankly or my legs give out. Usually not knowing what is going on to cause this to happen.

IMMEDIATE CONCERNS:
TIA ACTIVITY (IN THE BRAIN) THEN POTENTIAL FOR A STROKE
MALABSORPTION
Fungus in lungs and sinuses (no surprise there)
6th Cranial Nerve Stress
Organs showing potential imbalance:
Liver, Heart, Adrenals, Small intestine, Lung, immune, hormonal
thyroid and stomach.

I've lived away from Lewiston, Michigan for 4 years now. There is so much out there in the environment that those weak get hit with a lot of chemicals. More than we will ever know of. My point in sharing this with you all is to show you that yes, I have been chemically injured, both the medical and homeopathic community concur with that. So many others out there are sick and don't know why. It isn't in your head, chemicals are working away at your body. These figures don't lie. They would go along with sone of my hair testing and soil testing.(Thanks to others who donated to get the soil testing done!)
It is frightening to see what is still in my body and how ill I really am. I didn't realize how close to death I was until I was slapped across the face. Now is the fight of all fights. I intend on living a long time but if they try to draw those metals out of my body too fast that could kill me. We elected to try the nutritional way first.
SO BEFORE YOU LET OIL AND GAS INTO YOUR COMMUNITY LOOK AT WHAT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHERS. WE WERE TOLD IT WAS SAFE TOO. WERE THEY WRONG! THINK ABOUT IT, PLEASE.
Jaime Chimner

I would love to get others tested by starting a fund to be able to do that. These tests give you a baseline. The cost is $250 and would gladly take donations so others can get this test. It is up to you. MICHIGAN, WE GOT A PROBLEM GOING ON!!!! WAKE UP AND SMELL THE ROTTEN EGGS!

If only I had......over and over again

I had the pleasure of speaking to Congressman Stupak at the conference call town hall meeting.
I am working on a letter to send to him regarding this whole mess we have here.  He has helped
us once before, time to step up to the plate again Bart.  He listens to you and seems down to earth
but then he leaves the room and he is a politician.  Can't trust em as far as you can throw them but
we need them and they need us.  We just have to remind them that they need us periodically. That isn't
even why I am blogging today.  Just popped up in the front of the brain and needed to come out first.
There are days like that.
I am blogging about the stupidity of chemically injured people.  One in particular, me.  Some that may come as no surprise as I am my worst enemy.  Joe and I was watching BoatNerds.com and seeing what Great Lakes Boat was out there.  There was one we were keeping our eye on because it was right out our back door, so to speak, and hadn't moved for days.  In fact ice had formed around it.  Finally yesterday it was moving.  Yeah! Let's all go down to the public beach and watch the Coast Guard break the ice so they can come on in to Cheboygan!  Us and quite a few other people had the same idea.  They must have marine radio's too.
I saw it in the harbor and told Joe we had to go home and get the camera this was just so cool.  Now, I knew better but I have the fascination with the Great Lakes Boats now.  We got the camera and he drove me up to the gate across from the Boat.  The Boat was carrying gasoline for the big tanks kept in Cheboygan that vent
to the air. My husband reminded me of that and kept me upwind from the tanker and tanks.  I got some great pictures but my sinsuses were filling a bit swollen and I was getting hoarse.  Joe took me over the bridge so I could get a picture of it on the other side of the boat.  (which was downwind from the tanker and tanks)  I started having fuzzy vision and acting drunk Joe said.  That is what happens when exposed and people just think there are alot of drunks around.  Joe experienced a headache and some fogginess.  He was surprised that he had felt something.  He realized he shouldn't have brought me down there at all but I was insistent and we forget the dangers.
For hours I could hardly move and my body hurt.  If only I had ignored my inner desire to see that Boat, but we want to be normal and I have to realize that I'm not.
I hate this industry for its shoddy practices.  The thousands of people who have things wrong with them because of this industries shoddy practices and selfishness makes me want to puke.  Some days I do.
Wanted to share my experience......we have to be aware of our surroundings and not ignore them.

Finally Health affects Noticed

As I have been cruising the Blogs and different links that have to do with the oil and gas industry I have noticed that more notice is given to the health affects of this industry.
We have been preaching and preaching about the health affects until finally people are noticing. There are so many bad affects of this industry that people dying or being very ill just wasn't noticed. There is just SO MUCH it is overwhelming. From the pollution factor and environmental nightmares that what it actually did to some people was over looked or ignored.
Thank you for noticing and bringing it to the forefront. So many people are ill and don't know why. Here's a clue...what do you live around?. Always look what is around you and how is the water? As a friend told me if you want to know if there is Hydrogen Sulfide, for example, in the air (higher concentrations you can't smell that rotten egg smell) put a brand new copper penny on the ground where you think contamination may be. In 24 hours go back and if that penny has changed colors H2S is in the area. Such a simple thing to do, who would have thought.....
