THIS COULD HAPPEN TO US, BETTER READ AND SHARE

THIS COULD HAPPEN TO US

KARNES CITY -- Like beacons, the flares in Karnes County draw attention to one of the biggest and most profitable oil and gas finds in the world. Under the light belching from the towers, Mike Cerny takes a puff of medicine in what is now an empty inhaler.

Cerny and his wife say the inhalers and medicines the family takes now eclipse the royalties their property earns from fracking.

“When you see your son with up to three nosebleeds a day, something’s wrong with this picture,” Myra Cerny said.

At first, she thought it was “time” that was taking its toll on their bodies.

“But it was coming on too fast, the symptoms," Cerny said. "And others the same age -- I have a twin sister -- aren’t sharing the same problems.”

But with every bit of gas and oil being extracted, the family noticed changes in their health. The flares are supposed to burn off unwanted gases, but the family noticed clouds of black smoke erupting with the flames.

“We are totally surrounded," Cerny said. "And no matter which way the wind blows, we’re getting downdraft from one or the other."

Worried, the Cernys contacted the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.

In August and September, investigators with the TCEQ visited two units near their home. The leaking hydrocarbons are invisible to the naked eye, but are picked up as black smoke with the TCEQ’s infrared cameras.

The Cernys said their fears were realized when the TCEQ found the operator, Marathon Oil, was out of compliance.

“When they’re burning black and not operating right, like we’ve seen here, you have up to 250- pollutants raining down on your head," Cerny said.

According to TCEQ documents, methane, propane, butane, and hydrogen sulfides were in the noxious mix. The benzene emissions alone were reportedly four times over the legal limit.

The Cernys said it was the exposure to Benzene -— a known cancer-causing compound -— that matched their symptoms.

“That’s when we put things together. Well, that’s everything going on with our health. And we knew it was surrounding us,” Cerny said.

“Once you inhale it, your liver picks it up. And it is really what happens in the body that makes it carcinogenic,” said Dr. Andrew Brenner, a neurooncologist at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

He said chronic, long-term benzene exposure is dangerous and can lead to blood cancers.

“People get leukemias, or you can have damage to your stem cells and their bone marrow. That results in an inability to make their own blood cells,” he said.

The Cernys said they’re breathing that air around their home 24 hours a day. Now the family worries about their growing boy, Cameron.

“It’s like a CSI episode: You picture the chemical going in their fragile lungs and what it is doing to their body. And you wonder, 'How much longer do they have?'”

The TCEQ made two recommendations to Marathon Oil: the company installs an alarm or monitor to make sure the flare is working properly, and that Marathon reports emissions problems within 24 hours.

The oil company received no fines from the state agency.

“We want out of here,” Mike Cerny said.

The Cernys said they are not alone in their suffering.

However, other nearby residents were reluctant to come forward, telling KENS 5 they have family working the oil and gas fields. Complaining, they said, could cost them their jobs.

The Cernys believe the industry may have already cost them their health.

“Death,” said Mike and Myra Cerny simultaneously.

“That’s all I can think. Death,” the worried mother said. “Seeing our son die maybe before us. That’s all you can think.”

Please help us make noise in Northern Michigan

De LIddy will be at the Lewiston/Albert Township hall thursday January 12, 2011 to have
meeting with Judy Green and express concerns over the recent H2S exposure.
PLEASE IF YOU CAN BE THERE TOMORROW.
Also Chris Engle is doing a series of articles on what is going on in Lewiston/Gaylord
area.  We need you to call with your concerns or just say you have known about this for
years.  989-732-1111.
IF YOU CAN HELP WITH THOSE 2 THINGS, BLESS YOU.  I can't go to Lewiston anymore. My barrier line
is no more south than Indian River.  I and De and others have never stopped fighting for you and us.
Please help by doing these 2 things.
Thanks and Bless you

Michigan update gas leak

Ok, we know how they lie to us.  I have been on the phone so much first being a nice "girl" and then  blasting them with the facts.  Oh how did we do it 2004-2008 full time?  Breitburn Energy, anyone deal with them (used to be Quick Silver).  Oh how soon I forget, I start them with honey and them wham them with the truth and the facts.  The lies being told is unbelievable.
The Canadian Police was called  by the Sault (in the U.P.) and warned by Breitburn to expect calls of people complaining of
natural gas leaks.  The H2S travelled farther than anyone imagined. I would say from Kalkaska to Petoskey up to the Mackinac Bridge, over to Cheboygan (me) and into Canada.
An official admitted it.  Thank God for an insider. Have one in the hydrofracking too. We are dealing with Antrim fracking wells at the moment.
Better put on my old sweatshirt worn in Lewiston, 'how can i live my dream when my life is a nightmare'.  Lots going on here in Northern Michigan and raising hell.   2 women hit with H2S watch out!! The TV stations are already downplaying it, as we expected, but we have the power of the internet and all you out there to give me the inspiration to give em heck.  I'm good at that.  Please keep Northern Michigan in your thoughts and ideas as my stroked brain isn't as up on it as I used to be.
Just wanted to share our progress with a compression station that also has an injection well, had a leak in a new fault valve in the Antrim well,  the size of a quarter coming out at 600 psi for we claim, according to my physical symptoms, a lot longer than being admitted, imagine that.
Ideas accepted.

Michigan Gas Leak

Minor Gas Leak Cleared Up In Crawford County

This was NO minor leak. Read the comments to find out
how far this MINOR leak went.

My cohort is in trouble(healthwise) so I have to step up and do more fighting.
She has had to evacuate, permanently, and at her safe zone another Lewiston
person, not from her family, showed up at her bug out place too. They are
safe at this point. MARKWEST IS THE CAUSE and I will start dealing
with that on Monday, hit them in their pocketbook.
Those of you fighting the hydrofracking, I need your emotional support as
we have Antrim fracking and oil drilling, people don't realize hydrofracking
is the least of their problems. Loads and loads of high levels
H2S being trucked into the MarkWest 3-150,000 barrel tanks waiting to
go into the Enbridge pipeline.
At this time Enbridge has decided to open up some pipelines, literally and
leaving them open with sticks with lime green markers I've been told.
As ENBRIDGE is federally (haha) regulated they don't have to keep an eye
on how their pipelines are corroding. I've been told they are running a
"pig" through parts of the line (interesting) thus opening up the line to the air and anyone
who wants to see.

Those in Don't Frack Michigan and the watershed council you need to put this to the
forefront as many water sheds have been contaminated for years because of
these companies in the Lewiston/Gaylord and Northern Michigan. I will be
contacting some of you personally as I don't know who to trust anymore.

4 of us fought from 2004-2008 full time and backing off after that for various
reasons. My friend put her life on the line, as all of us has. She hever backed
down fighting for Lewiston despite the "crazy lady" stigma, as some of us know.
She sent us money to get our bathroom done so I could have a bathtub for my
physically therapy no questions asked, I needed help for my health, I had fought
hard and she wanted to help. She is my angel and saved my life many times.
I get so many emails or phone calls about people wanted information on how to
fight what this State and ...... is doing to them. It is heart breaking as all of us know.
So I'm going to try and step back up.

I think I know what plan of action but I could use suggestions.
Thomas, Dot and Lionel, it's De. Danny is real bad off.

Thank you for reading this and brain storming.

DEAD BIRDS YEARS AGO

We have been vindicated I believe.  All those years people didn't believe us about the dead birds in northern michigan and now it is happening again.  I think it is Methane.  If you hit the link blow and scroll halfway down the page you will find May 16,2004 dead birds were found and the DNR (Department of Natural Resources) quickly, yes quickly, came and picked them up.  That agency in my opinion does not do anything "quickly".
Those poor birds and fish.
No messing with mother nature.  Scary stuff happening.
Now would the people in Northern Michigan like to hear what I have to say (and we)??????
